Well, it looks like the Folding@Home client that came packaged with the latest Playstation 3 firmware revision is a big hit. In a matter of days, a small group of PS3 owners have managed to triple the total processing power of every Mac, PC and Linux computer out there contributing to F@H.
Naturally, we thought we’d get in on the act. So I’ve formed the official team for “The PS3 Nation.” When setting up your client software just enter the following number for your team: 62046

As noted in a previous entry, my Playstation 3 had some Bluetooth problems and was voluntarily replaced by Sony. The entire process took about two weeks and wasn’t without frustration. During those two weeks, I actually got my PS3 replaced twice. I’ll explain the details in the rest of this article, including things you may not know about the exchange process. As one of the lucky few to get a Playstation 3 the day it came out, I am also in the position of being most vulnerable to manufacturing defects or other bugs. Thankfully, the PS3 has been very stable, not displaying any obvious defects over the last several months of ownership. Recently, after upgrading to firmware 1.54, I started encountering a problem with Bluetooth and have now been asked by Sony to ship the console back for a replacement. This article will detail the problem, the troubleshooting steps Sony suggested and my impressions of the customer service I received from Sony. During a keynote address at 2007 Game Developer’s Conference, Phil Harrison revealed details of Sony’s latest bid to create a unified digital world in which internet connected gamers can socialize, play, and share common experiences. The logo shown here will be added to the Playstation 3’s Cross Media Bar this Fall. It will be the gateway to such a virtual world offering custimizable realistic avatars, private and public environments, media streaming, mini-games, online commerce, game achievements and trophies. Along with the announcement of Sony’s “Home” community, a new game was also unveiled. It’s called “LittleBigPlanet” and features a customizable 4 player co-op environment for side-scrolling platforming action. It’s very impressive to look at and seems to hit all the right notes for fun and original online gaming. Have a look at the video and see for yourself.
Monday night March 5th, an all new episode of “Heroes” on NBC television will feature Heavenly Sword footage never before seen by the gaming public. The footage features a rope slide and huge jump by the protagonist, followed by a breif glimpse of some melee action.

Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection is now available for purchase from the Playstation 3’s Online Store.
Downloading it will cost you $19.99 and is about 555 MB. The game plays at 1080p and is optimized for HD gaming. The Playstation Store in Japan has had this game for well over a month now. Since there appear to be zero changes made to the game, it’s unclear why Namco Bandai delayed it so long.
